Monday Inspiration: Turquoise!

Turquoise has always been one of my favorite colors, especially the way it's being used to tie together the modern and classical lines of this room (oh, and love the chandelier--if only my ceilings could be a few feet higher...). The rounded couch is right at home with the styled chairs and modern glass table.

Monday Inspiration: Comfy Office

I love the mild sage green in this room combined with the pops of orange from the chaise and accessories on the desk. This looks like the perfect office to work and relax!

Great Tool: Adobe Kular

Pictures in decor magazines tend to have a certain je nai ce quoi--something I can't quite put my finger on that seems to pull the entire room together. Usually, that something happens to be color--unifying the space, while at the same time drawing the eye to lovely accents. Decoding this color alchemy is now a far cry simpler with Adobe Kular. You can create an account and then upload pics of your favorite rooms (or flowers, paintings, clothes, etc.) and the tool will create color palettes for you! I tried this out on the pink wonder from yesterday's post, and the results are above--it's amazing what you miss that just seems to "fit" like the hint of light green. It really helps to complete the room.

Monday Inspiration: Color, Color, Color!

An oldie but a goodie--we tend to see the decor of the 50s and 60s as more muted and streamlined, but then how do you explain aquamarine appliances? I've yet to see any of these decor ads in an actual home, but I'd love to see if anything like this came to fruition! Anyone have a secret stash of room photos with pink ceilings?

Arizona Design Inspiration

I was browsing through design sites, as I do, and I came across this gem from Apartment Therapy: a design from Coco + Kelley called "Arizona"--a fresh take on the typical southwestern style that has, in the past, ended up with oh-so-many unfortunate peach and aquamarine sofas with faux Navajo designs.

I love the deep colors combos here, like the desert at sunset over a deep, blue lake. While the original intent here is the design of a study, I'm definitely keeping this as inspiration for our master bedroom!

Great Tool for Developing your Design

I just found this fantastic inspirational tool, and I wanted to pass it along. It's called Imagespark, and it provides a depository for images you find on the web. You can use the images to create your own groupings through tags and moodboards, which I love, because I can never seem to keep my ideas straight when it comes to design inspiration (outside of tearing magazines apart, and I never like to do that). You can also check out what other people have been saving to their moodboards in the community.

You can even download a widget that allows you to right-click on whatever image you find while you surf, and save it directly to your account on Imagespark--so no more saving to your desktop and uploading later! I can't wait to get started with some garden inspiration--it's starting to get just cool enough to spend time outside again.
